Rlc. Volcano Jewel 'Volcano Queen' — a statement orchid for collectors and connoisseurs.

A triumphant blend of power and refinement, Volcano Queen commands attention with large, waxy blooms in a volcanic palette of deep crimson and flame-orange centered with a luminous throat. Each flower combines the dramatic form of a Cattleya with the substance and longevity modern hybridizers prize. Petals are thick, glossy, and slightly cupped, holding color intensity for weeks so your display stays vivid long after other blooms fade. Pictures posted on January 7, pot size 4 inches.

Why Volcano Queen is exceptional:

  • Exceptional bloom size and substance: flowers that read like living sculpture, built to endure.

  • Striking, long-lasting color: rich, saturated tones that resist washing out under strong light.

  • Strong growth habit: vigorous canes produce multiple sequential blooms, rewarding both novice growers and experienced enthusiasts.

  • Ideal for presentation and gifting: a luxurious focal point for mantelpieces, formal interiors, and special events.

Care highlights (simple, reliable):

  • Light: bright, indirect light — morning sun or filtered afternoon light.

  • Temperature: comfortable intermediate to warm conditions; enjoys daytime warmth and gentle night cooling.

  • Water & humidity: water thoroughly then allow partial drying; maintain moderate humidity and good air movement.

  • Fertilizer: balanced bloom-boosting feed during growth.

Rlc. Volcano Jewel ‘Volcano Queen’ — Caring Guide

Rlc. Volcano Jewel ‘Volcano Queen’ is a showy Cattleya hybrid prized for large, vibrant blooms. To keep it healthy and encourage repeat flowering, follow these essentials:

Light

  • Bright, indirect light is ideal. Aim for morning sun or filtered light through a sheer curtain. Leaves should be a light to medium green; deep dark green indicates too little light, yellowing with burn indicates too much.

Temperature & Humidity

  • Day: 70–85°F; Night: 55–65°F. Provide a 10–15°F drop at night to stimulate spikes. Maintain humidity around 50–70% with good air movement to prevent fungal issues.

Watering

  • Water deeply, then allow the potting mix to dry slightly between waterings. In bark mixes, this often means watering once a week in active growth, less in winter. Avoid standing water and keep crowns dry to prevent rot.

Potting Medium & Repotting

  • Use a free-draining medium such as medium-grade fir bark mixed with perlite or charcoal. Repot every 2–3 years or when bark breaks down—ideally just after flowering and when new roots are emerging.

Fertilizer

  • Feed with a balanced orchid fertilizer (20-20-20 or similar) at quarter to half strength every 1–2 weeks during active growth. Reduce to monthly in cooler, slower periods. Flush pots occasionally to prevent salt buildup.

Airflow & Disease Prevention

  • Provide steady air circulation to reduce pests and fungal problems. Inspect regularly for scale, mealybugs, and spider mites. Treat pests early with appropriate insecticidal soaps or horticultural oils.

Bloom Care

  • Support spikes if needed and remove spent blooms to encourage future flowering. After bloom, continue regular care—many Rlc. hybrids produce a new growth and then rebloom on new or existing leads.

With bright light, consistent warmth, good airflow, and attentive watering, Rlc. Volcano Jewel ‘Volcano Queen’ will reward you with dramatic, long-lasting flowers. For premium specimens and supplies, visit O’Dowds Orchids—we ship nationwide.
